The City of Fayetteville will temporarily close several downtown roadways beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023, to accommodate the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade.
The parade will begin and end at the Fayette County High School parking lot on Tiger Trail. The parade will proceed south on Tiger Trail, crossing Lanier Avenue West (Highway 54 westbound lanes), and turning left onto Stonewall Avenue West (Highway 54 eastbound lanes), then turning right between the Fayetteville City Cemetery and Fayetteville City Hall. The parade will proceed around City Center Park, exiting and turning right back onto Stonewall Avenue West. The parade will then turn left onto Bennett Street, left onto Lanier Avenue West, and right onto Tiger Trail, concluding at the Fayette County High School parking lot.
Road closures will take place on Tiger Trail at the Hood Avenue intersection, on Lafayette Avenue at the North Glynn Street (Highway 85 North) intersection, on Lafayette Avenue at the Tiger Trail intersection, on Lanier Avenue West at the North Glynn Street intersection, and on Highway 54 West at the Grady Avenue intersection. The City Center Park parking lot will close at 9:15 a.m. or when it fills, whichever is earlier.
Traffic from Lafayette Avenue will only be allowed to turn right onto Lanier Avenue West (travelling westbound) during the closure.
The parade, which is hosted by the Fayette County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
