Office of Professional Standards
Responsibilities
The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for maintaining our State Certification through the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, Complaints and Internal Affairs Investigation. This division is tasked with:
- Keeping Department and personnel records
- Monitoring and resolving complaints
- Internal affairs
- Hiring
- Grant writing
- Public Information Officer
- Department Social Media
Also included in this division is the Community Relations Unit.
Units
Accreditation Manager
The Department employs a full time officer to maintain its State Certification and National Accreditation. As such, this person is also tasked with reviewing policies and procedures and keeping departmental records.
Community Activity, Resource & Education (C.A.R.E.) Unit
The Community Activity, Resource & Education (C.A.R.E.) Unit is tasked with maintaining positive police-community relations. The two officers in this unit host public awareness seminars, coordinate the Citizens and Junior Police Academies, and promote the Neighborhood Watch Program. They are also responsible for communicating with our citizens and businesses to ensure the Department is providing the highest level of service.
Training
The Training Sergeant is responsible for ensuring all of our sworn and non-sworn personnel obtain and maintain all of their required certifications and training. They maintain a close relationship with the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council, as well as handling annual training required by department and the Governor's Office.
Internal Affairs
All complaints are received and investigated by the Captain of the Office of Professional Standards. Every complaint is taken seriously and thoroughly researched. Warrants
Our Warrant Unit consists of one part-time officer. This officer coordinates prisoner pickups and transports, serves municipal arrest warrants and provides security for the Fayetteville Municipal Court.
